"Infotainment? What the hell are you talking about?"

Under the flashlights once again

Finally someone came up with the idea to lift the ban on photography, that was imposed some time ago, on the Salle des Etats, the room which hosts the Mona Lisa.
Most people didn*t care or didn*t know about these rules, or simply ignored them. Every tourist wants to get a shot at the famous lady after all, so there is no way of stopping them from taking out their cams or cell phones and start clicking.
Maybe they thought people would buy a Mona Lisa postcard at the store if they weren*t allowed to take pictures, but try to stop the willing! Sneaky tourists always find their way... So now things seem to be back to normal once again.
Oh, and someone forgot his shopping cart in the roman portrait gallery... I swear this place looks more and more like a shopping center

Louvre at night and other Eiffel-Tower related picnics...

You might think that, in these late August days, Paris is flooded with tourists. Well it probably still is, but at night, the crowds seem to have disappeared, tour busses gone, and the venerable monuments come to life again.

A moment of peace and reflection for the rare venturers, like myself, touring around in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre, gazing at those century-old facades, shining in the night like a beacon of mass tourism. But they have become more to me than just stone structures representing a booming museum industry.

When you come down to this place at 10pm, and sit down on a bench, and all of a sudden, out of this intense moment of pure silence (remember you*re between 2 of the noisiest streets in the center, yet in the court you can hear a pin drop) you hear Bach being played on a cello in one of the nearby arcades. A moment so precious you don*t want to leave and stay there all night, hoping the cellist will go on forever...
Another great joy is the occasional picnic on the Champs de Mars, which you could practically do all year round if the weather permits it. Invite a couple of friends, a cute little dog, and bring good food and wine, and let*s dine!
No better backdrop than the Tower of Paris to illuminate your dinner ambiance when the sun goes down, and the cheers of the people all around you when the tower starts its sparkling every once in a while.
You may also observe lots of activities going on here in the early evening, such as jogging, dog walking, soliciting, and butt-robics...always a favorite!
Meet me down at the Eiffel tower!

Next Stop: Christiane Amanpour?

After spending lots of time this past week watching "God*s Warriors" on CNN, even I couldn*t stop thinking about the nice hairdo Christiane Amanpour has made her trademark signature. The world*s best paid journalist sort of looks as windy as I do on my regular day!

Say Christiane, do some of your friends also call you 'toilet-brush' like mine do?

And just if you were wondering on what my own version of an Amanpour could look like....
"Give us a kiss! I*m Christiane Amanpour, for CNN"

Semi-Vintage Elodie Reedition

I finally unearthed some pictures from my old computer (the one that fell into disgrace after getting the new laptop) and decided to share some of them with you, dear Blog!
Some months ago it was Elodie*s birthday, and I wasn*t able to post the pictures of that day for reasons understandable by some... But now, times have changed and it*s the right moment to show them. After all who doesn*t like to see drunken people doing stupid things? "That*s what politicians are there for!" you might say, but nothing says 'boozehead' better than a picture with your face on it.

Elodie B*day + Eiffel Tower + picnic = lotsa fun!

The 3 Stooges

Later on, after finishing eating up, I got forced to empty all the bottles that were left, so they wouldnt be wasted to the trashcan, and we went to the Queen nightclub on the Champs Elysées!
Drunk and drunk and drunk gone dancing

What I*ve been reading/will read these days

the new french Vogue is out!

PHOTOSHOPPING SARKOZY

The french magazine Paris Match apparently published a photoshopped picture of president Sarkozy on vacation in New Hampshire earlier this month.
The picture, taken by Reuters News Agency, was modified to appear in Match*s edition of 9th August. Another magazine, L*Express, published the original and the photoshopped version of said picture.
One can clearly see that someone took away the ugly fat squirting out of the presidential short!
Maybe the Elysée is trying to hide the fact that Sarko is getting a bit rounder these days...

Not since the good old days of comrade Stalin has retouching pictures been so popular.

LAGERFELD WINDOW

Imagine passing in front of the windows of the Printemps department store in Paris, and suddenly seeing Karl Lagerfeld, the emperor of CHANEL, sitting in the window, on a throne made of books, surrounded by some of the books of his 300.000-item strong library, staring back at you while being interviewed by a woman standing in the street right next to you.
Think I*m crazy?
Think again! It*s a concept parisian TV station Paris Première came up with, giving designers the opportunity to show their universe and interests to the public, in a 2-minute-segment.

I am Cedric, discoverer of things that would go unnoticed in the streets of Paris, historic haven of fashionistas and city of lights ('lights' as in 'enlightenment', not street lights).
But seriously: I'm an expat from Luxembourg (the country, not the garden), living in the center of Paris (hence 'Paris 2nd arrondissement'), and currenlty studying architectural history...
