Printemps Rejuvenated once again

Since 2007 the historic Printemps flagship store on Boulevard Haussmann has been undergoingextensive renovations and restaurations in order to restore all its historic glory to one of the most beautiful department store facades in all of Paris.
Built in 1882 by architect Paul Sédille in order to replace the first buildings that got partially destroyed in a fire in 1881. The new buildings were, according to architecture historians, the first prototype of the department store in its modern day form, with a grand interior display of open spaces and monumental staircases, unfortunately gone for good nowadays.
The renovation work will continue until 2010, but the parts on Boulevard Haussmann have already been revealed for a couple of weeks now and shine in all their grandeur like a beacon for shopaholics all over Paris.

So beautiful for a shopping mall. I received little packets of French flower seed from there once.

I am Cedric, discoverer of things that would go unnoticed in the streets of Paris, historic haven of fashionistas and city of lights ('lights' as in 'enlightenment', not street lights).
But seriously: I'm an expat from Luxembourg (the country, not the garden), living in the center of Paris (hence 'Paris 2nd arrondissement'), and currenlty studying architectural history...
