Construction of the Place Royale took from 1773 to 1780, using the design of French architect Barnabé Guimard. The square is almost an exact replica of the Place Royale in Reims.
The Church of Saint Jacques-sur-Coudenberg, consecrated in 1787 and the statue of Godefroy de Bouillon, the leader of the first crusade in 1096, riding on horseback.
