The Pantheon Murals

The walls of the former Eglise Sainte Geneviève are covered in monumental painting cycles depicting the lives of great french icons. The paintings were comissioned in the 1870s to a large number of en-vogue artists of the day, such as Puvis de Chavannes, Galland, Bonnat, Cabanel, Lenepveu, Laurens and many others.

The paintings cover up the former window spots of the old church of Soufflot, and give the building its current flair of a darkened temple.

I am Cedric, discoverer of things that would go unnoticed in the streets of Paris, historic haven of fashionistas and city of lights ('lights' as in 'enlightenment', not street lights).
But seriously: I'm an expat from Luxembourg (the country, not the garden), living in the center of Paris (hence 'Paris 2nd arrondissement'), and currenlty studying architectural history...
